This strange and fascinating sculpture appears for no apparent reason in the fields surrounding the north of Madrid, Spain. The first time I found it I was in for a huge surprise. It is very difficult to convey the feeling of suddenly coming across this brutal bust in the middle of nowhere. All kinds of theories about its origin and possible meaning begin to assail one. Although a signature can be seen at the base of the bust, it is not easy to read and I am completely unaware of the identity of the sculptor, why he would raise such a mass for no apparent reason.
In my imagination, this strange artifact is "The Idol", a kind of modern totem like those used by some traditional cultures. In this magnificent mass of shapeless brick I see the totem with which our current civilization, in its last throes, worships itself.
